Heikkinen Seeks to Rewrite Record Books One More Time This Season
Bluebeam® Rallycross driver and 2013 Global Rallycross (GRC) champion, Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen, is heading to the GRC 2013 season finale in Las Vegas this Thursday to finish his historic season. Considering the new champion simply needed to drive across the starting line at September’s GRC Charlotte to win the GRC title, yet took it to another level by coming in third, Topi is undoubtedly looking to make it to the podium once again.
Topi’s well-documented successes this season include two world X Games gold medals and a five-race winning streak that spanned nearly three months before Scott Speed finally stopped the young Finn at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on September 22. This week’s course in Las Vegas promises to be a high-speed affair with its wide starting grid, long straightaway, sweeping corners and broad turns, which is well-suited to Topi’s full throttle skills and his high-powered Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta ST. Regardless of the outcome, Heikkinen will be presented with the GRC Championship trophy at a special ceremony following the final.
“It’s been a great year,” said Topi after he was declared the season champion and awarded the 2013 Sylvania SilverStar zXe Cup in Charlotte. “But I’m still looking forward and want to win the last one. Of course I want to be on the podium still—that’s what I’m looking for, and that is our goal.”
“It has been an incredible season for Bluebeam rallycross racing, thanks to Topi’s heroics on the track,” said Richard Lee, Bluebeam Software President and CEO. “But this is just the beginning. After seeing what Topi could do in just his second GRC season, it looks like anything is possible for years to come.”
GRC Round 9: Las Vegas is taking place November 7th at 7:00 PM EDT and will be broadcast on ESPN2. For continued updates on Topi’s performance, go towww.bluebeamrally.com or follow Topi on Facebook or Twitter.
