The race was on to find a new driver for the 2014 season after Bluebeam’s 2013 rallycross driver, Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen, shifted gears to race predominantly in the FIA World Rallycross championship. Upon meeting with longtime partner Olsbergs MSE, the three-time GRC championship winning team, Bluebeam was introduced to Joni Wiman, the soft-spoken Finnish speed demon who won every single Global Rallycross Lites division race of 2013.
Joni was moving up to the Supercar division, and Bluebeam seized the opportunity to stand beside Red Bull and sponsor Joni. “Coming off a winning year with Topi Heikkinen, we are excited to see how much farther Joni can push the limits of rallycross,” said Richard Lee, President and CEO of Bluebeam. “With the GRC Lites championship under his belt, wins in every race in the series last season and coaching from Marcus Grönholm, we expect to see some extreme racing from Joni.”
A new driver ups the ante on what is poised to be the most exciting GRC season yet. With the promotional power of Red Bull and NBC behind the series, rallycross fans can expect a superior live experience in addition to action-packed TV coverage.
Joni’s Ford Fiesta ST, built by Swedish powerhouse OMSE, hits the track on May 18 to kick off the season at the Top Gear Festival in Barbados. Bluebeam wishes him the best of luck and a season full of checkered flags.
